Some patients may think that a root canal is a painful procedure. However, dental infections themselves cause uncomfortable and often painful symptoms. At Vassey Dental Partners, we use local anesthesia and offer dental sedation for pain-free root canals. Root canals are performed to remove the infected pulp from the middle of a tooth. Patients who receive root canal treatment in our Peachtree City, GA office can remove infection as well as pain from a tooth or teeth. Look for the signs of a dental infection and learn more about the root canal procedure below.
Signs of a Dental Infection
The most common signs of a dental infection include:
- Tooth sensitivity
- Swollen gums
- Bad breath (halitosis)
- Tooth discoloration
- Swollen lymph nodes
- A bad taste in the mouth
If you have noticed any of these symptoms, please contact our office for treatment. We can help you determine if you require root canal treatment or another solution to alleviate tooth pain and sensitivity. Our goal is to provide pain-free and comfortable treatment for our patients.
The Root Canal Procedure
We will take x-rays and conduct a thorough examination to locate your infected tooth or teeth. Then, we will create a custom treatment plan and schedule your procedure. To begin the root canal procedure, we will apply a local anesthetic to the mouth. We will also provide you with dental sedation so you feel calm and relaxed. Then, we drill a small hole in the infected tooth to remove the infected tissue and nerves. We clean the tooth chamber and outside of the tooth. Finally, we seal the tooth, with a substance called gutta percha to minimize the chance of reinfection. Following your treatment, we may recommend a dental crown to cover the tooth if it is weakened. Dental crowns fully cover single teeth to provide additional stability and strength.
