Many individuals suffer from varying degrees of pain in the facial area, whether from stress, their bite, migraines, or TMJ dysfunction (TMD).
Vassey Dental Partners offers Botox® treatment to help relieve symptoms of TMD, migraine headaches, and other facial pain. After completing a Board-approved training course, we are credentialed by the Georgia Board of Dentistry to safely and effectively administer Botox®.
Ask about Botox® TMJ Therapy at your next appointment or schedule a consultation. Call 770.766.4170 or request an appointment online.
The first step is to undergo a consultation with the dentist. We will determine whether or not you are a candidate for treatment by evaluating your condition.
Botox® is injected into the affected head and neck muscles. The active ingredient in Botox® blocks nerve signals and relaxes the muscles that contribute to facial pain.
Although Botox® treatment only takes a few minutes, the procedure can produce results that last as long as three months. After a series of treatments, the patient may be able to train the facial muscles to relax.
A potential added plus of Botox® treatment is a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles.
Botox is FDA approved to temporarily treat wrinkles and has been used for cosmetic purposes for nearly 20 years. It is also FDA approved for the temporary relief of headaches and can be used as TMJ therapy to alleviate TMJ pain.
Is it safe to receive Botox treatment from the dentist?
Yes, a dentist in Georgia may only provide Botox if he/she has completed postdoctoral approval by the Georgia Board of Dentistry and is in good standing with the Board. Vassey Dental Partners has nearly 25 years of experience working with facial anatomy and giving facial injections. Our partners have fulfilled the training and earned the credentials to offer these services to patients.
How do I begin?
To begin, let us know you are interested in Botox as a TMJ therapy. We provide free consultations to determine if you qualify for the treatment. In some cases, we may be able to provide the treatment on the same day as your consultation. Otherwise, we will schedule a convenient appointment for the treatment.
How quickly will Botox relieve my facial pain?
In most cases, patients will experience relief from their facial pain 3 to 5 days after the procedure.
How long do the results of Botox TMJ Therapy last?
The results of the treatment last for about three months. Following 2 or 3 treatment sessions with Botox, you may experience muscle relaxation benefits for a longer period of time.
What are the side effects, if any?
Botox is a very safe treatment. However, side effects do exist. Choosing a well-qualified dentist or doctor to administer Botox for treating TMJ is essential to help ensure optimal safety and comfort. Commonly experienced side effects of the treatment include soreness and redness at the injection site. Usually, the discomfort does not extend for more than a couple hours.

We take the time to answer any treatment questions, utilize a wealth of resources to make you comfortable in the chair, and prepare you for the estimated out of pocket costs prior to treatment. If you have dental anxiety, we will go over several options that will help you have the most comfortable dental experience as possible. Options include nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV sedation.
Follow Up & Long Term Care. Our goal is to take care of any necessary treatment and then to have you on scheduled recall visits to have your teeth cleaned. At this visit, we will monitor your periodontal health, complete periodic exams and annual xrays, so that we can diagnose conservative treatment.

Botox treatment is a simple injection of Botox into the impacted muscles in the neck, face, and jaw. This is done in-office through our dentists who are trained and approved in the procedure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
Botox does not work immediately, but over three to five days after the treatment, patients experience a reduction in pain and a relaxing of the muscles.
No, the Botox injection itself is not painful, but it may cause discomfort similar to a small bug bite. Typically applying ice to the site of the injection or injections is all that is required. Some people may also choose to apply a small amount of numbing cream for a day after the procedure.
Each individual is different, but most patients will find results lasting about 3 months, with the results extended further with subsequent treatments. It is also possible to train muscles to relax, which limits the need to continue with Botox therapy.
Our staff will provide information prior to your scheduled treatment. With any Botox treatment, do not drink alcohol or use any NSAID medication or blood-thinning medication prior to the treatment without talking to our dentists in advance. Discuss any supplements or prescription medication with the dentist during the consultation appointment. Do not wear makeup on the area to be treated.
Some people may experience slight bruising and redness at the injection site that naturally fades in a few hours to a day. There are some side effects with Botox, and our dentist will review those with you at the consultation and again at the treatment.
The cost of Botox treatment is based on the specifics of each patient’s treatment plan.
